Medela AG – an internationally active medical technology company – is a leader in the development and manufacture of breastfeeding products and high-quality medical vacuum technology solutions.
After implementing its B2B shop, the Swiss company commissions us to develop a native mobile app for the “Breastfeeding” division. With this app, Medela wants to support mothers before, during and after their personal breastfeeding period.
The goal is to develop an innovative and personalized customer channel that will enable Medela to optimally address its target group as an expert in natural breastfeeding and breast milk nutrition.
We create the concept and the visual design based on a previous user experience workshop and a survey. The backend for content administration of the iOS app is based on the SAP Hybris Web Content Management (WCMS) module (consistent with Medela’s B2B shop).
We divide the app into four content areas:
- «My Page»: Here the mother finds her personal profile with a personalized content stream (e.g. breastfeeding tips) based on Java web services.
- «My Baby»: In this area the mother can see all records of the baby at a glance.
- «Track»: Here the mother can track breastfeeding and pumping times and enter further baby data (sleep, weight, height, diapers, etc.).
- «Statistic»: The preparation of the data in daily or three-day or weekly statistics helps the mother to keep the overview.
The MyMedela app combines extensive personalized data recording and visualization with an excellent user experience in a modern design.
The pump connects to the smartphone via Bluetooth and automatically tracks the duration, time, pump level and pump phase. In the app, these data are displayed on a clear dashboard. At the same time it is possible to manually enter other important points such as milk quantity or breast side. Various statistical display options give a complete overview of their baby’s diet.
With the new app, Medela not only accompanies mothers on their entire “Breastfeeding Journey”, but also opens up a new customer channel with personalized content along Medela’s product diversity and expertise in all aspects of breastfeeding.
